Mercedes Justine Kaestner-Varnado is an American professional wrestler and actress better known by the ring name Sasha Banks. She is currently signed to WWE and is a member of the Smackdown brand. Previously, she was signed with Independent Circuit for Chaotic Wrestling, where she won the Women’s Championships. She signed with WWE in 2012 but got promoted to the main roster in 2015.
Biography and Early Life
Sasha Banks was born on 28 January 1992 in Fairfield, California. She has an autistic brother, and thus her family moved to different places like Minnesota to look for schools and hospitals for his brother. His family finally settled in Boston, Massachusetts, where she spent the rest of her childhood life. Her parents are Rue and Judith Varnado, with her father being of African-American descent and her mother German descent. She is a cousin to Snoop Dogg, Brandy Norwood, Ray J, and Daz Dillinger.

Banks began her wrestling training at Chaotic Wrestling in Woburn, Massachusetts. On 1 October 2010, she made her in-ring debut under the name Mercedes KV and teamed with Nikki Roxx to try and defeat Alexxis and Danny E. They formed an alliance and accompanied one another severally on ringside. Her first loss was on 22 October to Danny E. and later lost a rematch on 13 November. Her first victory was on 7 January 2011, when she and Roxx defeated Alexxis and Mistress Belmont. Her trial to take part in a five-woman gauntlet match was unsuccessful.
She made her first title in defense against Barbie on 6 January 2012. She retained the title after facing Luscious Latasha on 27 January. She had been linked to Independent Circuit since 2010, and she made her New England Championship Wrestling (NECW) debut on 8 August 2010, where she teamed up with Ivy. They were fighting against Ariel and Samni Lane. On 4 September 2011, she teamed again with Ivy to defeat Veda Scott and Mistress Belmont. She later defeated Belmont in a single match on 23 September.
On 19 November 2010, she debuted for National Wrestling Alliance under the ring name Miss Mercedes to face Julian Starr. In June 2012, she participated for the first time in WWE tryout camp after she had been signed for a contract. After she was assigned to NXT, she started using the ring name, Sasha Banks, making her first television debut on 12 December, but she lost to Paige. She made her first televised win against Alicia Fox on 23 January 2013.
She made a collaboration with Rae after she defeated Bayley, and they debuted a new gimmick, “The Boss.” They adopted the name The Beautiful Fierce Females, BFFS, and faced Paige and Emma during a match of NXT on 16 October and defeated them. They were later joined by Charlotte, but later Rae moved to WWE’s main roster, leaving Banks and Charlotte to face Bayley, who had collaborated with Natalya.
