Shingi Albert Munyeza is a popular Zimbabwean businessman who is among the richest men in Zimbabwe. He used to be the head of a chain of hotels in Zimbabwe, African Sun, until 2015 when he stepped down in order to pursue personal interest. Biography and Early Life
Shingi Munyeza was born on 17 September 1966 in Mazowe, Rhodesia. He was the firstborn son out of six children of Fredrick Munyeza and Damaris Gwata. He went to live with his grandmother in Inyanga when he was two years and even attended part of his schooling there. Later, he moved in with his parents in Salisbury, which is now Harare, in 1978. His parents had relocated to the neighborhood of Marimba Park and attended the rest of his primary school there.
While living with his grandmother in Inyanga, Munyeza attended part of his primary school at Tamunesa Primary School. After reuniting with his parents, he completed the rest of his primary school at Mhizha Primary School, located in Highfield, Harare. When he matriculated, he joined St. John’s High School in Emerald Hill before transferring to Prince Edward School, where he completed his studies.
During his time in St. John’s High School, he used to be the head boy. Later, he served as the junior mayor of Harare. He holds a diploma in marketing and hotel management strategy. In 2010, Solusi University awarded him with an honorary business doctorate.

Munyeza is a family man with a wife and a daughter. He married the love of his life, Wilma Munyeza. The couple is blessed with one daughter named Nomsa.
He has been recognized in the whole of Zimbabwe for his contribution to transforming the community. He has also initiated sustainable youth programs for the disadvantaged in the community through his Faith Ministries Church, where he served as a senior pastor for 11 years, from 2006 to 2017.
However, in January 2021. He was found in a controversy after his daughter exposed him as adulterous on social media. He decided to step down from the position of a senior pastor.

Munyeza was lucky to start working immediately after completing high school level/ he did his articles of clerkship under Ernst and Young while still studying a B. Compt in accounting at the University of South Africa. He also enrolled for a diploma in Applied Accountancy from the Institute of Accountants in Zimbabwe. He went ahead to study advertising for an IMM Diploma in Marketing.
Later he went to Zimbabwe Sun, which is now African Sun, where he studied a diploma in Hotel Management Strategy from Cornell University in New York. He got his training in accountancy from Ernst and Young. He changed his career path to work in advertising and worked as an executive director in CM & A Advertising. After he got a job at Cresta Hospitality Zimbabwe, he changed his career from advertising to tourism and became Group Commercial Director. He later moved to Zimbabwe Sun Limited, currently African Sun, as the Group Chief Executive.
He played a major role in bringing international food franchises to Zimbabwe. He has also invested in ICT and telecoms. Since 2002, he has been the Chief Executive Officer of the largest hotel management company in Zimbabwe, ZimSun Limited. He went ahead to buy shares in the firm to become a major shareholder. He renamed the company African Sun Limited (ASL), and within a short time, the company expanded and bought properties from Mozambique, Botswana, and South Africa. Also, some hotels from Ghana and Nigeria also became part and parcel of ASL. He used approximately $25 million to redevelop the hotels such as Troutbeck Inn Resort in Nyanga, Holiday Inn Resort and Hotels, Monomotapa Crowne Plaza in Harare, the Cape Grade in South Africa, and Elephant Hills Hotel in Victoria Falls. He worked with African Sun Limited for 13 years, from 2002 to 2015.

Munyeza has won a lot of awards courtesy of his career. in 2004, he was awarded Zimbabwe Outstanding young person award. He was a winner of Tourism Personality of the year from 2002 to 2005 and then won the Institute of Directors Award in 2008. He received an honorary doctorate in Business Administration and Development from Solusi University.
He was Zimbabwe Tourism Authority Personality of the Year from 2008 to 2012. He was the recipient of the Lifetime Leadership Achievement Award from the Zimbabwe Institute of Management in 2017.
