Charles Milupi is a Zambian politician. He is the founder of the Alliance for Democracy and Development that Charles Milupi established in 1990. He is known for his campaign for reforms of the Zambian army. Charles Milupi is the Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development after having been appointed and sworn on 7 September 2021 by President Hakainde Hichilema.

Charles Milupi is also known for his liberal views on human rights and international affairs. Charles Milupi has written a book called The African Union: A Case of Neo-Imperialism, which was published in 2009.

Biography and Early Life

Charles Milupi was born in Zambia on 25 April 1954. Charles Milupi is the son of Charles Mwanzia and Regina. Charles Milupi is the great-grandson of Charles Mwenzi.  Milupi’s father, Charles Mwanzia, died when Charles was only a child in 1964, so his mother, Regina, raised her children on her own. Charles started his education at a local boarding school called Matero Boys Boarding School.

Charles Milupi was the first-born son of Charles and Regina, so he had to help provide for the family by working on the farm and doing odd jobs around town. He became interested in politics when he saw that Zambia’s independence was only four years away in 1964. Charles Milupi’s mother Regina was a woman who encouraged Charles to study and learn more about his country.

Education

Charles attended Lusaka Secondary School for his high school education before attending the University of Zambia, where he graduated with honors in 1977. Charles was a member of the student movement during this time, participating in protests against Banda’s government rule.

He eventually began to participate in these protests more than his studies. Charles eventually became a lecturer at the University of Zambia and helped to start a student publication group called “The Voice.” Charles later left the university after he was elected as Member of Parliament for the Kapiri Mposhi constituency on September 20th, 1996.

Charles’ political career includes serving as the Chairman of Lusaka City Council between 2010 and 2011, Deputy Minister of Local Government and Housing & Urban Development from 2012 to 2014, and Member of Parliament again between 2014 and 2016.

Charles also ran unsuccessfully for president during the 2016 election, where he came second with 9% after Edgar Lungu, who won with 58%. Charles is well respected in Lusaka and has been involved with the city’s development for some time now. Charles is also known to have a humble personality which makes him more likable as an individual.

The rest of his professional career is still being put together, but Charles seems very competent at politics from what he can tell from his past. Charles was a presidential candidate for ADD and has shown his competence in the past.
