Biography and Early Life

Mauricio Ochmann was born in Washington, D.C., on November 16, 1977.  Ochmann was never introduced to his biological parents and spent his early years with his adoptive mother, Maria, and her first husband, Guillermo, whom she eventually divorced.  Following their divorce, Mauricio and his mother relocated to Mexico, where the actor’s mother began dating German Thomas Ochmann and lived with his brothers Thomas, Christian, and Paulo. Years later, Mauricio relocated to Los Angeles, where he studied acting at Santa Monica’s Joanne Baron Studi.

He is best known in Mexico for his roles in telenovelas such as Amarte Asi, in which he played Ignacio “Nacho” Reyes. Additionally, he appeared in Kevin Costner’s film Message in a Bottle, as well as the television series. That’s Life and Latino Green. He starred in Telemundo’s Dame Chocolate as Fabián Duque. He starred as Victorino Mora in Telemundo’s hit Victorinos and played the lead role in El Clon, a Telemundo novela. He is also the star of “El Chema,” a spin-off of his hit television series “El Seor de los Cielos” as “Chema Venegas.”

Professional Career

Mauricio showed an early interest in performance by participating in various local activities and works, but it wasn’t until he was 16 that he got his first professional opportunity on Héctor Suárez’s TV show La Otra Cosa. After studying in Los Angeles, he landed a small part in the film Message in a Bottle alongside Kevin Costner and Robin Wright.

Following his first works, he returned to Mexico, where actor and producer Humberto Zurita and his wife Cristian Bach offered him the role of Bárbara Mori in his first telenovela, Azul Tequila, which premiered in 1998. The following year, Elisa Salinas casts him in the telenovela, Háblame de Amor, with Danna Garcia. After appearing on television, it decided to act in plays, and its first appearance was in “Equus,” for which it received several awards, including the National Association of Theater Critics’ award for “Actor Revelation in Theater.”

In 2000, he returned to Los Angeles and appeared in Diane Ruggiero’s That’s Life television series.  At the end of this one, he returned to Mexico to co-star with Lorena Rojas in the Televisión Azteca telenovela Como en el cine (2001).  He appeared in the telenovela Mirada de mujer, el regreso, a sequel to Mirada de mujer, in 2003. He also appeared in productions such as Ladies’ Night, based in 2004 on 7 Mujeres, 1 homosexual, and Carlos, alongside Adriana Fonseca, Rogelio Guerra, Luis Felipe Tovar, and Ninel Conde.  In 2005, he co-starred with Luis Felipe Tovar and Paola Nez in the thriller Ver, or y callar.   In addition, he co-starred in the telenovela Amarte as Frijolito, in the role of “Ignacio,” and in the film Tres, directed by Carlos Valdivia.

Among his works are the telenovelas Dame Chocolate and Marina, which he had to abandon due to addiction issues.   He appeared in Victoria in 2007, alongside Géraldine Bazán and Andrea López, among others; the melodrama was a remake of Seora Isabel and Mirada de mujer (1997), starring Angelica Aragón and Ari Telch.  

Between 2010 and 2011, I starred in the telenovelas Victorinos, a remake of Cuando quiero llorar no lloro, which is based on the book written by Venezuelan author Miguel Otero Silva, and El sexo débil, co-produced by Itat Cantoral. Already in 2012, he co-stars in her final telenovela, Rosa diamante, with Carla Hernández, and the following year, he joins the Telemundo series, El Seor de Los Cielos, where he only appears in the final episode of the first season and is promoted to the main protagonist in the second and third seasons.

He was nominated several times for Telemundo’s annual awards as a result of this series. But it was at the 2015 ceremony that he was named “Best Bad Boy.” Mauricio began to devote himself to the cinema and participate in publicity campaigns after his participation in the series ended.

In 2015, he debuted his film A la mala, his first collaboration with the woman he would marry in 2016, Aislinn Derbez. In addition, he appeared in the American series Easy in 2016; later, he returned to play Jose Mara “Chema” Venegas in the series El Chema, a spin-off of El Seor de Los Cielos.
