Philip Chiyangwa was born on 23 February 1959 in Chegutu in Zimbabwe. He is the son of Marita Mandivenga and Divaris Makaharis. He was born together with thirteen other siblings. The former president of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe, is his relative.

Chiyangwa attended Chegutu Primary School and later joined St. Francis Secondary School, where he graduated from. He obtained his different professional qualifications from different institutions in Zimbabwe and worldwide.

He was removed from this seat in 2005 and could not run a position in the 2005 elections. He returned to politics in 2018 for Zanu-PF as a representative for the Zvimba South Constituency. He was later elected to the National Assembly on 30 July 2018.
With his increased influence, he became the president of ZIFA, a football club. Although he has maintained visibility on social media, Zimbabwe was banned from World Cup after failing to honor payment to the coaching staff. Under Chinyangwa’s tenure, Zimbabwe did not secure any international competition. He left ZIFA and joined COSAFA as the regional president.
He faced various controversies, including making several false representations of his FIFA status and embezzled funds for up to $2 million. He has also been accused of corruption, fraud, and embezzlement by ZIFA. He was banned for life by Zimbabwe Football Association for bringing Zimbabwean football into disputes.
