Geoffrey Bwalya is a Zambian politician who has served as a Member of Parliament for Kitwe Central constituency since 2011. He is also the Vice-Chairperson of Patriotic Front, which he joined in 2008 and was appointed to the position by President Michael Sata.
He is well known for being a self-made businessman, philanthropist, and motivational speaker. His fame grew when he was elected Member of Parliament for Kasama Central constituency in 2009.
Geoffrey has a number of businesses, including; Zambia Beverages Limited, Bwalya Properties and Investments Ltd., Kangeli Tea Estates Company Ltd.
Biography and Early Life
Geoffrey Bwalya was born on March 15th, 1959, to a Zambian father and Tanzanian mother. His parents divorced when he was young, and he moved with his mother back to Tanzania. He was raised alongside his mother’s family who had a relatively large farm; born into wealth thanks to an inheritance from his parents’ landholdings which were relatively large farms at that time.
Bwalya left Tanzania for Lusaka, Zambia, in 1974, aged fifteen, after completing high school there. His parents divorced when he was young, and his mother took him back to Tanzania. Bwalya left Tanzania in 1974 to join his father and siblings back in Zambia when he was fifteen years of age.
He completed high school at Lusaka Boys School and went on to study in the United States. He studied Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from Florida State University. Upon graduating from his studies, he was recruited by Barclays Bank, where he worked ten years before moving to work for Mobil Oil Corporation as an accountant. During his time working for Mobile, he was transferred to Zambia for four years, and he remained in the country until 1993.

Bwalya did his primary school education at Kitwe Primary School from 1968 to 1972. He then attended Lusaka Boys’ Secondary School for two years, 1973-1974. After high school, he went on to Florida State University, where he studied Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and graduated in 1988
Upon graduating, he was recruited by Barclays Bank, where he worked for ten years. He then transferred to Mobil Oil Corporation as an accountant, this is where his career really took off, and in 1993 he relocated back to Zambia with Mobil. After four years of working within the country, Bwalya moved on from Mobile but remained a resident of Zambia until 2006, when he relocated again to England.

Geoffrey is an educated and skilled business person in addition to being a politician. However, he has quite a lot to his personal life, much of which he prefers to keep away from the public eye. He married his wife in a lavish and star-studded wedding ceremony. They had their honeymoon on the beaches of Zanzibar, Tanzania, before coming back home and settling down. For those who are interested, they have four children together.
The couple is members of the United Democratic Party, which is a conservative Christian party. They are quite active in church activities and even serve as prayer partners when needed. Besides church, they enjoy playing golf together, taking long walks, and visiting the school where their children go to.

In 1996 he received an honorary doctorate from the University College at Durham (now Newcastle) to recognize his contributions to the field of international development.
