Biography and Early Life
Charly Musonda was born in Brussels, Belgium but has his roots in Zambia. His parents are of Zambian descent. He takes after his father Charles Musonda who played for the Zambian national team and was featured during the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul when Zambia got themselves to the quarter-finals. One can easily fail to distinguish between Charly Musonda and his father as their names are completely similar.
Charly grew up alongside his two older brothers, Lamisha and Tika. Charly and all his brothers seem to have been totally influenced by their father’s professionalism as they all play professional football. Lamish once featured in a project, goal project with David Beckham. They all attended the Anderlecht Football academy before joining Chelsea in 2012.
Charly was a wonder at a young age, he was on-demand at the age of 15 with giant clubs clashing to have him sign a contract with them. Clubs like Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Manchester United were all in the quest of signing him but he favored joining Chelsea where he still plays to present.
Musonda has Zambian roots but he interestingly doesn’t play for the Zambia national team. He instead plays for Belgium, where he was born. He has constantly played for the Nation’s under-15 and under-21 teams.
The young talent attended school in New Malden (Richard Challoner School) for his early education.
He then joined Anderlecht academy together with his brothers. He completed as a youth graduate.
He then joined the Chelsea youth club. He majored in professional football and hence there is not much about his schooling.

Charly Musonda debuted his career while at Anderlecht youth. His career history is as described below.
Charly joined Chelsea on 11 June 2012, along with his two older brothers, after the club agreed to pay Anderlecht a “compensation fee”. On 24 October 2013, he signed a professional contract with the club, having previously played for the club’s under-18 team.
Musonda signed a contract extension until 2019 on 5 March 2015, after already being a regular with the club’s under-21 team.
He drew interest from French clubs Monaco and Olympique de Marseille in the summer, following his success in the UEFA Youth League and FA Youth Cup.
Charly requested to leave the club in December due to a lack of opportunities during the first half of the 2015–16 season.
He turned down a loan move from Standard Liège in January 2016.
Musonda signed a season-long loan deal with La Liga side Real Betis on January 29, 2016, with no option to make the move permanent. When he made his professional debut, he was named Man of the Match in a 1-0 win over Valencia at home on February 7th. Six days later, Musonda equalized in a 2–2 draw with Deportivo La Corua for his first professional goal. Musonda’s Real Betis loan was extended for the 2016–17 season on June 22. Musonda returned to Chelsea on January 1st, 2017, with just one start to his name under Gus Poyet’s tutelage.
Seasons 2016–17 and 2017–18
Real Betis confirmed on January 1st, 2017, that Chelsea had summoned the Belgian back to London.
Because Blues manager Antonio Conte was unsure whether or not Musonda would be loaned out, many clubs in Europe, including Roma, expressed interest.
Nevertheless, Antonio Conte confirmed after the January transfer window closed that Nathan Aké, Kenedy, and Musonda would remain at Chelsea for the remainder of the 2016–17 season in a press conference following Chelsea’s 1–1 away draw with Liverpool. After 84 minutes against Arsenal in the 2017 FA Community Shield, Musonda made his Chelsea debut, coming on as a substitute. On September 20, 2017, he started his first game for the club in the EFL Cup against Nottingham Forest, scoring the club’s third goal in a 5–1 win.
Musonda joined Celtic on a season-long loan on 29 January 2018.
The following day, he made his Celtic Park debut, scoring three goals in a 3–1 win over Heart of Midlothian.
In the first leg of the Europa League round of 32 against Zenit St Petersburg in February, he assisted Callum McGregor on his goal.
Due to Musonda’s lack of playing time at Celtic, the loan agreement was terminated in May 2018.
Having missed out on a place in Chelsea’s 23-man squad ahead of the Premier League season, Musonda re-joined Eredivisie side Vitesse on a season-long loan on 31 August 2018 (transfer deadline day).
Musonda agreed to return to the club in July of the following year on loan for a second season. Musonda suffered a posterior cruciate ligament injury a week into his initial loan period, limiting his league appearances to four in each of the following two seasons.
