Saulos Chilima is a famous Malawian politician as well as an economist. He was once the vice president of the Republic of Malawi. He also served as the Minister of Economic Planning and Development also as the Head of Public Sector Reforms, a position he held under the administration of the former president Peter Mutharika.

Saulos Chilima was named Saulos Klaus Chilima after birth which took place on 12th February 1993 in Blantyre, which is located in Malawi. He was delivered at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital by his mother, Elizabeth Frances Chilima, from Mbilintengerenji Village, T/A Champiti, Ntcheu. His father was called Henderson Brown Chilima from Ching’anga Village, T/A Njewa, Lilongwe.
Chilima spent most of his early life in Blantyre, where his parents were working though most of the holidays he spent with his paternal and maternal grandparents in Lilongwe and Ntcheu. He is known to be the first child of his parents though he has not given details of his siblings.
Education
When he was of age, Chilima began his education at HHI Primary School and was transferred to Dharap Primary School. He later enrolled at the Marist Brothers Mtendere Secondary School Thiwi, which is located in Dedza District.
After high school, he joined the University of Malawi, Chancellor College, and graduated with a degree in social sciences. He later did a master’s degree in Knowledge Management and received a Ph.D. IN Knowledge Management from the University of Bolton in the United Kingdom.

Together, they have been blessed with two children, namely, Sean Chilima and Elizabeth Chilima. Chilima is a devout Roman Catholic with his family. Professional Career
Saulos Chilima Professional career began as a marketer where he began working at Lever Brothers [Mw] Limited, now known as [Unilever] before he moved on to the Leasing and Finance Company in Malawi and later to Southern Bottlers Limited, now known as [Castel Malawi]. Also, he had his last professional assignment at Airtel Malawi, where he was hired to lead its sales team before being named the first-ever local managing director for the company. Apart from the above professional, successful career, he also had the following notable successes like Yabooka, Airtel Money, among many more.
Chilima later joined politics, where he launched his transformation movement known as Transformation Movement [UTM] towards the formation of his political party to contest in the 2019 elections. Chilima’s UTM held a meeting with two other political parties and an alliance of smaller political parties aimed at forming a united opposition. The parties which were in the discussion meeting include; Peoples Party for the former Malawi President Joyce Banda, Tikonze People’s Movement led by former Vice President Cassim Chilumpha, and the Alliance for Democracy [Aford].
Malawi general election came, and Chilima, alongside Dr. Michael Usi as his running mate, came third with 20.24% of the popular vote, and UTM won 4 seats in the National Assembly. In 2020, the presidential elections were held, and Saulos contested the race as Lazarus Chakwera as his running mate. He won the position of vice president of Malawi.
Moreover, Chilima served as minister for disaster relief and public events. He is also a member of the Leadership Council of Compact 2025, a partnership that develops and disseminates evidence-based advice to politicians and other decision-makers aimed at ending hunger and undernutrition by 2025. Again, he was written on the topic of malnutrition and has managed to speak on suitable and inclusive development and international conferences on ending hunger. He has also managed to voice his advocacy of environmentalism and of physical fitness and sports participation, and of corruption in politics.
