AKA was born on 28 January 1988 in Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa. His real name is Kiernan Jarryd Forbes. AKA’s father is known as Tony Forbes while his mother is known as Lynn Forbes.

Tony and Lynn Forbes were in a relationship while on campus when they got their first son in the first year of campus. This was when Kiernan Jarryd got born in 1988. Later, they got a second son known as Steffan Forbes who is the sibling to AKA. Kiernan’s father and mother later divorced after 20 years of marriage but remained supporting their children together.

AKA had much of his early life together with his grandmother in Cape Town who raised him in the greater part of his early life.

Education

In his early life, while being raised by his grandmother, Kiernan Jarryd got enrolled to Holy Cross Convent School located in Cape Town. However, he later joined his mother in Johannesburg in the year 1995 after which he got enrolled in Johannesburg’s Greenside Primary School.

After completing his elementary and high school education, AKA joined St John’s College in Johannesburg where he did his higher education.

Though he is, AKA has had several lovers in his life. Initially, he was dating DJ Zinhle whose real name is Ntombezinhle Jiyane. AKA started dating DJ Zinhle in 2014 and the couple got blessed with a daughter on 8 July 2015 known as Kairo Olwethu Forbes.

They later then separated following allegations that AKA had cheated on Zinhle with the TV presenter Bonang Matheba. AKA together with Bonang Matheba denied the allegations but started dating. AKA’s relationship with Bonang Matheba lasted for 3 years after which they separated making AKA rejoin with DJ Zinhle in late 2018. The relationship with DJ Zinhle, however, did not last for long as they separated in 2019 again.

After separating from DJ Zinhle, AKA commenced dating Nelli Tembe and got engaged to her on 21 February 2021. Nelli Tembe died 2 weeks after their engagement after a fall from the 10^th floor of Pepperclub Hotel in Cape Town. After the death of Tembe, he has not yet introduced any lady in his life to the public yet.

Together with his friends, they created the Entity Hip-Hop music group while in their high school. However, the group split in 2006 after which Kiernan went to study Sound Engineering. During this same year, he founded The I.V League together with other 2 people.
