Emmanuel Makandiwa is a well-known Zimbabwean religious leader. He is known for founding an interdenominational church in the year 2008, which later became a fully functional church in the year 2010. He also founded the United Family International Church [UFIC], which made him popular too. He is known by many as Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa.
Biography and Early Life
Emmanuel Makandiwa was born on 25th December 1977 in Muzarabani in Mashinaland, which is located in Zimbabwe. He was named Shingirai Chirume. He is the son of Lilian Makandiwa, his mother, though his father’s name is yet to be known. Both his parents were elders in the Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe church located in Muzarabani. He grew up with his unknown siblings in Muzarabani in a Christian family.
Education
Like any other child, when he was of age, he was taken to school. Later, he enrolled at Zengeza High School in Chitungwiza for his secondary education. He completed high school and went back to Muzarabani. He went to Harare and joined the A.F.M’s Living Waters Theological Seminary, and graduated with a Diploma in Theological.

Emmanuel Makandiwa is a married man. He is married to a beautiful lady, namely Ruth Makandiwa. The couple together has been blessed with two sons, namely; Victor Makandiwa and Emmanuel Jr. Makandiwa. Makandiwa used to be a pastor in the Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe [AFM] Church.
Being raised in a Christian church, he used to be part of the organizing team for gospel crusades, where he was one of the preachers. Also, he has been in the media with his controversial miracles of changing people’s HIV status as well as causing the birth of a baby three-day-old pregnancy. That made him be sued for ‘fake prophecies.’
Professional Career and Ministry
Emmanuel Makandiwa’s career began after graduating from theological school. He went to Matabeleland, where he worked as an assistant pastor under the supervision of Reverend Aspher Madziyire [who was once the President of AFM]. He was later assigned to be the pastor of an Assembly in Shangatani, where he was later transferred to How Mine to Hebron Assembly in Chitungwiza.
He began an inter-denominational church, drawing the attention of many people, and his sermons were screened on Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation television. He was said to have abandoned his duties at his Chitungwiza assembly and devoted much of his time to his inter-denominational church. He was given two options by the executive interim of AFM, either to remain with AFM or to be with UFIC, and he chose the latter.
Later, Makandiwa renamed UFIC to United Family International Church [UFIC]. He was also implicated in a corruption scandal for illegally purchasing two stands in Chitungwiza, working in cohorts with Jemina Gumbo, a director of a certain housing scheme. It was reported that the council had approved the construction of a stadium and hotel on those two stands, which were allocated to Makandiwa.
Makandiwa was also accused by a group of pastors from Ghana of using charms to perform his controversial miracles. The pastors also stated that they wanted to report him to Mugabe so as his church could be burned. Leo Mugabe also supported them because he failed to heal his mother, who was in a coma for 4 years. Makandiwa faced a lot of accusations from different prophets and pastors.
