Zimbabwean businessman Chiwanza has been in the industry for about 20 years and has made a name for himself as one of Zimbabwe’s top entrepreneurs. Chiwanza is president of Chiwanza Group, which operates in various industries like mining, manufacturing, construction, and retail.

Chiwanza also serves on the board of directors at The First National Bank Limited (FNB). He is also a member of the Chimwemwe Investment Club. He is the founder of Chimwemwe Kufa, which provides affordable and quality housing.

Biography and Early Life

Chamu Chiwanza was born in 1957 to Chimwemwe Chiwanza and Chigana Chiwanza. Chimwemwe Chiwanza was a prominent businessman in the area of Hwedza and Chigana Chiwanza, Chiwanza’s mother, operated as Headmistress at Mpande Primary School.

Chiwanza attended Mpande Primary School in the Hwedza area of Zimbabwe. Chimwemwe Chiwanza also served as Chairman for ZIMCO, a company he founded with two other partners, which grew to become one of Africa’s most successful conglomerates.

Chimwemwe Chiwanza and Chigana Chiwanza had one other son, Chamu’s brother. He grew up in the Hwedza area of Zimbabwe.  Chiwanza would later become the Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of ZIMCO.

Education

Chamu Chiwanza attended his primary school education at Mpande primary school, where also his mother was principal. Chiwanza was a brilliant student and a good athlete, but Chiwanza decided to focus on academics. Chimwemwe Chiwanza, Chiwanza’s father and also a successful businessman, wanted his son to study in the UK, but Chiwanza chose to study locally.

He matriculated from high school and joined Kutama College, an elite school in the capital, Harare. Chiwanza graduated with a diploma from Kutama College and received a bachelor’s degree in Economics with specialization in Production and Marketing from Mzilikazi University at age 22.

Chiwanza was the youngest graduate, and Chiwanza also received a fellowship at Miami University. Chiwanza was the first Zimbabwean to study at Miami University on a scholarship. Chiwanza graduated from Miami University with a Master’s in Economics, Financial Management, and Marketing.

Chamu was part of the team that was tasked to raise money for the Zimbabwe football team for their performance in Angola. The Zimbabwe Football Association was later disbanded for corruption.
